How CritterPods™ Began
A Big Dreamer with a Lot of Ideas
CritterPods™ didn’t start as a business plan. It started with a kid who couldn’t stop dreaming.
From the time she was five, our daughter has been imagining businesses. She passed out flyers. Invited neighbors over. Turned our house into schools, restaurants, and little shops. She didn’t just play pretend—she built worlds and wanted people to step inside them.
As parents, we thought our job was to lead. What we didn’t expect was learning that our real job was to step back, stand behind her, and watch her run.
The Idea That Didn’t Work (and Why That Mattered)
Her first “real” business idea wasn’t CritterPods.
She wanted to sell pre-packaged kids meals at a local farmers market, each one with a small 3D printed toy inside. She planned it carefully, bought supplies, and was ready to go.
Then she was denied by the market.
It was disappointing. But instead of quitting, she went back to the drawing board.
Around that same time, we had gotten a 3D printer for her dad’s job. She became fascinated by it and started talking about printing toys. We encouraged her—but with one challenge:
"If you’re going to do this, it has to be different."
There were already plenty of individual 3D printed toys at markets. She needed something that felt new.
That’s when the idea clicked.
One Playset Changed Everything
Instead of selling single toys, she imagined a playset.
A tiny world. A container. Five animals already inside.
Her very first CritterPod was a barn.
She designed it. Chose the animals. Thought through how kids would play with it. When she finally had her first youth vendor booth at a farmers market, we expected to be very involved.
We weren’t.
She greeted customers. Told the story. Explained the playsets. Sold them with confidence and joy. We planned to stay a couple of hours. She stayed the entire time.
She came home floating on cloud nine.
That day changed everything.
From One Booth to Many Worlds
Before the market was even over, she was already dreaming up the next playsets.
Soon there were six themed sets. Then more. The response was immediate. Kids connected with them. Parents loved the screen-free, imaginative play. What started as a youth vendor booth grew faster than any of us imagined.
Today, CritterPods has gone from a local farmers market table to a brand shipping playsets to families all over the world.
And through it all, the heart of it has never changed.
Still Kid-Led. Still Family-Made.
CritterPods is still driven by her imagination.
She continues to come up with new playset ideas. She wants every kid to have a tiny world they can take anywhere. Our role as parents is to support, guide, and help bring those ideas to life.
Every CritterPod is thought up by a kid and then designed & 3D printed by our family, with care, creativity, and attention to detail. They’re made for imaginative, screen-free play and built to be enjoyed again and again.
Why We Do This
CritterPods is about more than toys.
It’s about letting kids take their ideas seriously. About creativity, confidence, and learning through doing. About watching a child realize that something they imagined can become something real.
We’ll always carry the heart of where this began.
A tiny booth.
A big smile.
And a kid who showed us what’s possible when you let children turn their ideas into reality.

Every CritterPod is made with care by our family, inspired by a kid’s imagination, and shared with yours.
